Hong Kong Family Office “Disruptor” Helix Targets US$2 Billion in AUM
A former co-founder of Centaline Family Office has launched a new venture in Hong Kong with two experienced industry professionals, establishing an external asset management firm Helix Capital Partners Limited. Its Chief Executive Officer told Citywire Asia that the firm is targeting US$2 billion in assets under management (AUM) within its first three years of operation.
Helix is led by Larry Hung, former Chief Investment Officer and co-founder of Centaline Family Office, who serves as Founder and Chief Executive Officer of the firm. Ray Yep, formerly Senior Portfolio Manager at BOCHK Asset Management Limited, has joined as Founder and Chief Investment Officer. More recently, William Chan, formerly Executive Director and Head of Fund Services at Raffles Family Office, also joined Helix.
Hung said Helix aims to “disrupt the traditional EAM model”, with a flexible pay-as-you-go fee structure and what the firm describes as “the industry’s highest revenue-sharing arrangement.”
In addition to external asset management, Helix provides services fund management, corporate advisory and pre-IPO financing arrangement, and is currently preparing a Japan real estate limited partnership fund.
The firm is also integrating artificial intelligence into investment research and back-office operations, while reducing fixed operating costs and passing those savings to the advisors. Helix expects its operating expenses to be approximately 30% to 50% lower than industry peers.
Headquartered in Hong Kong, the firm also plans to expand into Taiwan, Singapore and the Middle East.
